5 Practices for a Positive Happier YOU

Everyone has days where they feel sad and down. For some, this feeling last only a couple of minutes while others can’t seem to shake this feeling off. If you happen to fall into this category, do not despair, there are basic things you could implement into your daily life that will make you feel happier and refreshed.

Exercise

If  you have heard exercising makes you a happier person but you are wondering how true this is.  When we exercise, our body releases a hormone called endorphin which is responsible for creating the happy feeling.

There have been numerous studies which have proven the efficacy of exercise to reduce symptoms of depression and promote happiness.

On days when you feel like the world has landed on your shoulders, take a walk in the park, run on a treadmill, cycle or sprint. Engage in some form of physical activity and you will be amazed by the happy feeling that flushes in.

If the idea of exercising doesn’t excite you now, try it just once, and wait till you are all sweaty and have complete something challenged you, I promise you will be back for more.

Be Thankful for Everything.

If you could make a list of all the things you are grateful for,  you will see that you have enough reasons to be happy and this will cheer you up. When you wake up in the morning or before you go to bed at night, write down the things you are thankful for—did you go out and come home without being involved in an accident?  Were you a victim of any mishap? Do you have a bed to sleep in? Start small and make it a daily habit to be thankful for everything.
You should always keep in mind that there are people who have less than what you have and who will give anything to have what you have got. Being thankful takes your mind off the negatives and places it on the good things ahead.

Bond With Family and Friends

People that isolate and are alone easily can slip into depression. Always be around friends and family who love you and have your interest at hand. Spend quality time with them and feed on their good and positive vibes. You were given a family for a reason. Do not spend time brooding alone when you could share your problems with them and feel a lot better. David M Gilbert, the author of Stumbling On Happiness once said;
We are happy when we have family, we are happy when we have friends and almost all the other things we think make us happy are actually just ways of getting more family and friends.

Sleep More.

When you are exhausted you cannot be happy. Not getting enough sleep will leave you feeling cranky, worked up and irritated. According to the sleep foundation, an adult is required to get an average of 7-9 hours of sleep daily.[4] According to research not getting sufficient sleep will make you have negative thoughts throughout day. Lower coping skills, and have a negative impact on health.  Getting sufficient sleep everyday no matter how busy you are is one step to finding happiness and  health.

Do Not Dwell On Past Mistakes.

So what if you made a mistake? Everyone makes mistakes and no one is perfect. Dwelling on what could have been rather that what is will leave you feeling depressed. Move past regrets, let whatever it is that happened and forgive yourself completely.  You have to be happy, satisfied and content with your present situation. Forgive yourself and others and you will feel better than you have ever felt. Every lesson is a learning lesson. Remember the quote don't stumble on something that is behind you!
