There are as many sangria recipes as there are bartenders! This one lets the taste of the Sauvignon Blanc come through without watering it down with soda water or injecting more alcohol into the drink with brandy.
Traditional sangrias use red wine, but why have all those
luscious wine-soaked fruit pieces floating in your glass if you can’t see them?
This is a light sangria knockoff that is high in antioxidants (strawberries and
blueberries), and cheats on the overnight fruit-soaking step by heating up some
of the fruit on the stove. The end result is a stunning drink that is so
delicious, it’s dangerous – even without the brandy!
You will need:
·
4 large, sugar-rimmed wine glasses (Gently
squeeze a lime wedge along the rim of the glass and dab the edges onto a saucer
of sugar.)
·
A bottle of Sauvignon Blanc (or a box if you
have a crowd)
·
Fresh strawberries and blueberries
·
A lime
· Sugar....1 cup to make a simple sugar
Directions:
Heat up a half cup of blueberries and a half cup of
strawberries with a cup of water and a cup of sugar on the stove. Let it simmer
for about 10 minutes, then mash the fruit, add a cup of strawberry slices (unmashed)
and let the mixture chill in the fridge. When cool, add the bottle of wine and let
it chill until needed – the longer, the better.
Serve with a few ice cubes (too much ice waters down the sangria), a squeeze of lime and
strawberry/lime garnish. This is the perfect drink for sitting on the porch
enjoying the first warm days of spring.
